When one considers the individuals who have left their mark on the history and reputation of Jacobi Medical Center, one person immediately comes to mind: Dr. Warren Wetzel.
Dr. Wetzel was Chief of Trauma Surgery at Jacobi from 1986-1994. An innovative and widely respected surgeon, Dr. Wetzel was instrumental in the development of a trauma service which today enjoys national renown. He also developed a unique relationship with the herpetology staff at the Bronx Zoo, upon which he founded Jacobi's Regional Snakebite Center.
Beloved by colleagues and staff alike, Dr. Wetzel possessed unparalleled surgical skill, remarkable leadership ability, deep compassion, and an intense devotion to Jacobi Medical Center. He has left us with a legacy and an inspiration we will never forget.
